Do You Really Have to Respond to Every Social Media Post?
Pause, Think then Reply
Eight social media tips to consider
Social media can be a fun way to connect. But sometimes others will share things that contradict or even attack our beliefs. What should we do when that happens?
There isn’t a single answer that works perfectly for every situation. But we can always try to follow the example of Jesus Christ. He was patient and loving—and would never shoot off a quick, angry reply.
Here are eight questions to think through that can help you know how best to handle your next social media dilemma:
- Do I truly want to help by responding, or am I motivated by anger?
- Am I feeling too emotionally charged? Should I calm down first?
- If someone posts false information, is it possible they’re honestly misinformed?
- Does it seem like the author is just trying to start a fight?
- Do I need to respond quickly or would another time be better?
- Would it be better to send a private message?
- Do I feel the Spirit while writing my response?
- Is my response a good example of Christian communication?
Prayer can be one of our best tools in helping us know whether to speak up and what to say. Let’s fill the social media world with as much respectful dialogue as we can!
