First, if you haven’t watched the video about this, you should. I made a short version and a full version. The short verion can be found here:
The full version can be found here:

For further explanation and better graphical images, see below.
This graphic shows the alignment of the sun, moon, planets and stars on September 23, 1827. But you can be thrown off by the graphic overlays of the constellations. So the following graphic I have removed the overlays so you just see the stars with the constellation lines.
9 months prior in December 1826 Jupiter enters the belly of Virgo.
The Retrograde of Jupiter – It happens about every 83 years and happened both n 1827 and 2017 in combination with the alignment of the sun, moon and other planets which is the only time since John the Revelator had the vision that has become the Book of Revelation.
September 22, 1827
September 22, 1827, the day Moroni allowed Joseph Smith to take the gold plates is also the last day of Rosh Hashanah, the first day of the Jewish New Year. The very next day the sign in the stars was manifest. See: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/2000/01/the-golden-plates-and-the-feast-of-trumpets
The Joseph Smith Translation adds even more context to the true meaning of these events:
November 13, 1833 – Leonid Meteor Shower
“November 13. About 4 o’clock a.m. I was awakened by Brother Davis knocking at my door, and calling me to arise and behold the signs in the heavens. I arose, and to my great joy, beheld the stars fall from heaven like a shower of hail stones; a literal fulfillment of the word of God as recorded in the holy scriptures as a sure sign that the coming of Christ is close at hand. In the midst of this shower of fire, I was led to exclaim, how marvelous are thy works O Lord! I thank thee for thy mercy unto thy servant, save me in thy kingdom for Christ’s sake: Amen.” Joseph Smith – Times and Seasons May 15, 1845
Early Church Apostacy
According to one historian, “Between November 1837 and June 1838, possibly two or three hundred Kirtland Saints withdrew from the Church, representing from 10 to 15 percent of the membership there.”27 The “great apostasy” also carried over somewhat to Missouri. In a nine-month period, the Three Witnesses, a member of the First Presidency (Frederick G. Williams), four members of the Twelve Apostles, and several members of the First Quorum of the Seventy left the Church. Because he continued to boldly defend the Prophet, Brigham Young was threatened and forced to flee on horseback to Missouri. – https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/manual/church-history-in-the-fulness-of-times/chapter-fourteen?lang=eng
